Photographed close enough that the reef stops being biology and becomes pattern — colour, texture and repetition, made to hang as abstract work rather than as a record of what lives down there.

Anemones, sponges, brain and star coral, feather dusters and Christmas tree worms, from San Pedro, Caye Caulker and Placencia and out at Turneffe, Lighthouse Atoll and Half Moon Wall. Some photographed at night, when the polyps open to feed.
